TOPIC: Drink Driving

Drink Driving 04 Sep 2011 14:25 #3373

Just a warning to anyone who may sometimes drink and drive in Crowland. My boyfriend and I went for a meal last Sunday evening and then later dropped into the Bridge for a drink. We drove out from the car park about 9.30 and noticed a police car parked on the adjoining road. It followed us on our way home and then pulled us up in Postland Road. My boyfriend was breathalysed but wasn't worried about this as he doesn't drink and drive. Apparently this was a spot check just because we were seen leaving a pub.

Glad the Police are being pro-active about this. Driving after drinking alcohol is totally unacceptable in today's society.

And so is driving under the influence of prescribed drugs and the other class of drugs currently available. Unfortunately there is no breathalyser that can detect those abusers.

You say that, but now they are being trained to recognise the signs of drug use by looking at driver's eyes. As it is impossible to voluntarily alter the size of one's pupils, it gives a good indication that further investigation is required.

Of course, they have to stop the car first.

If the police practised more random breath tests, then our roads would surely be safer.
With regard to detecting drivers who have used drugs, I don't suppose it will be too long before a solution is found. There are some clever scientists about.

Saw an officer of the law with a speed gun on the new road today. He was parked behind the bridge over Queens Bank, on the Spalding side, so not obvious to the traffic heading towards Spalding. Be warned!
However, I am pleased that they are making an effort to catch the heavy right footed.
