TOPIC: networking to encourage local talent

networking to encourage local talent 18 Aug 2008 09:35 #69

Hi everyone, I've been pondering on how to get this group going. It's not for lack of talented people as each person i speak to seems to be beavering away on their own home at some art or craft type activity. They also seem to be receptive to the idea of getting together to swap unused bits and pieces and also for learning from each other. One idea i've come up with is an 'Arts and crafts Swap and Share' event held in the town. What do you think? If I went ahead could you help me to organise it?

I'm thinking sometime in late October, early November when people are thinking about doing things for Xmas.

Hi there, Crowland Cares here. Did you know we have a Craft Group meeting on a Tues evening at the Library? We have about 12 - 15 members although not everyone can come every week. We bring things with us like crocheting, knitting, cards to make, miniaturist/dolls house projects etc and have previously had workshops to learn (sometimes from each other sometimes from outside teachers) beading, quilling, teabag folding. It's a chance for a natter and cup of tea. We also make things to sell to raise funds for Crowland Cares eg last week we cut up old Xmas cards to make gift tags to use as tombola prizes. It costs

Hi there, no, I didn't know about this group. i've always assumed (wrongly i bet) that those who attend crowland cares events are mostly elderly people looking for companionship. Not that there's anything wrong in that, I fully support what crowland cares does. i will have to pop along one Tuesday to see it in action. It won;t be next week as i have visitors but maybe the following week. Can you just go or do you have to join CC first?

No you don't have to be a member of Crowland Cares although most of us are (every little helps as they say, and it's only

Hello to everyone,
Just to say that I am having a clear out of materials/fabrics both for dress making and home furnishings. I keep collecting bits and bobs with the intention of using them and they keep multiplying by themselves! If they would be of use to anyone then please get in touch

Thanks for offering these. I am very tempted but I already have a huge chest full of material 'I am going to use one day'! Some of it's been in there for several years.

I kept saying it would be used 'when I retire', but, I retired 2 years ago and still haven't had time to use any of it.

I went through a stage of making handbags, and made some very nice ones. I got aasked to make one for several friends but said 'No'. I get bored if I have to do something too many times. I am someone who likes to have a go at lots of different types of arts and crafts, I think I enjoy the learning as much as the doing.

Evidence of this eclectic approach is about to be shoved under my nose as I've delegated a spare bedroom as my working space and am starting to gather all my arts and crafts stuff together into one place. At the moment it's stored all around the house. I've already had to get my other half to put up several 9' long shelves and they will be bulging!!

Hi, thanks for asking. I'm afraid I am struggling at the moment, not due to my knee, although having to wait to have the right one replaced isn;t helping. It's my back now. I've ruptured a disc in the lower spine and it's blocking the little hole that the sciatic nerve goes through, trapping the nerve. I am unable to stand upright or walk more then a few steps without a lot of pain. I have an appointment to see the spine specialist on Aug 4th so will know more then about what they intend to do about it. The spine hospital specialist, who I saw privately for a disgnosis, wanted to operate but I'm trying the NHS route first to see what they say. I don;t want to jump into having surgery unless it's absolutely necessary.

I still consider myself a member of the Tuesday group but I'm exhaausted at the end of the day most days and just can;t find the energy to get out.

Still, I'm sure by this time next year I'll be right as rain again, at least i know it's not life threatening.
